The honest state of Linux Mobile ecosystem.
Blockers
We need to be very honest about where Linux Mobile is today.
Many things are working well, things are progressing very quickly... but still there are some blockers that could make someone not want to switch now.
Most bankings apps are not running (NFC payments included)
Most bankings apps are not running well on Linux Mobile, even with Waydroid because of Google Play Integrity API checks that these apps are often implementing.
A petition is even live on change.org to denounce that behavior and this also has been vigourously debated in the GitHub issue tracker of the EUDI Wallet Prototype app.
Not being alerted when you need to
Because some features aren't implemented yet, and suspend/resume doesn't always work reliably, you may sometimes miss notifications you would have wanted to see. For example, the GNOME Clocks app still can't wake up the phone for alarms (even if an MR has been opened already for it since 2025).
Some apps are not yet adapted to smaller screen sizes
You will inevitably come across some apps that haven’t yet been adapted to smaller screen sizes. For example, this is currently the case with the Proton Pass app. In situations like this, the best approach is to upvote existing feature requests and reach out to the company directly to let them know that proper support for smaller screens is needed.
Camera quality still not at the level you could expect
Kernel developers and people of the libcamera project are doing an amazing job to bring cameras to an usable state. But the reality is that if photography is really important to you, a Linux Phone would surely not being the good option for you for now.
Here's an interesting talk recorded at FOSDEM 2026 about camera tuning to understand the background.
Companion devices like sport watches or cycle computers not compatible
If you are someone relying a lot on companion devices like for example sport devices, then there are a lot of chance than they will not be compatible with your Linux Phone. For exemple, take a Garmin, a Coros or a Polar watch, no companion apps are avaible for now in the Linux Mobile space. And the official apps will not working trough Waydroid due to the lack of Bluetooth integration.
